A mass of balloons took to the skies this week to celebrate the completion and hand over of a new £7 million school in York.
Shepherd Construction organised the balloon race in conjunction with Clifton with Rawcliffe primary school to mark the completion of a year-long project to build a new state-of-the-art 3,200m² school building.
Shepherd Construction began work on the project last July on behalf of City of York Council. When the new building opens this September, it will bring two schools together under one roof, a modern learning environment and valuable external space such as a multi-use games area, sports facilities and play area.
The school also includes a number of environmental features including an innovative E-stack passive vent system, biomass boiler, and rainwater harvesting.
Colin Sargeant, managing director for Shepherd Construction’s East Division commented: “We were delighted to help celebrate the completion of the Clifton with Rawcliffe school with a balloon race as it also underlines how closely we have worked with the staff and pupils throughout this project.
“We now look forward to seeing the school move in to their new building and reaping the benefits of occupying a 21st century learning environment.”
Mrs Beverley Wright, Deputy Headteacher at the School said: “We are very excited about moving to our new school. I know the present school holds many memories for lots of people but the opportunities the new school will offer are immense. The whole process of the new build has been made easier by the excellent working relationship we have had with Shepherd construction”.
