Construction Work Well Underway at Holland Park School

Work on redeveloping Holland Park School is well underway with contractors currently installing more than 800 piles as part of the construction of the foundations of the new building.

The £58 million construction project is due to complete in 2013 and will see the existing 1960’s campus replaced with a 17,000m² state-of-the-art learning environment for the 1500 pupils and 100+ staff.  The new building will also free up more open space on the campus which will improve the school’s sport and play areas.

The school, which is the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea’s only community secondary school, is remaining fully operational during construction, requiring a move into temporary classroom accommodation and careful phasing of the work by main contractor Shepherd Construction.

Two of three tower cranes have already been erected on the site as work progresses, with a third crane scheduled to be erected next month.

Ian Cheung, Shepherd Construction’s managing director for the South Division commented: “Work on the foundations is progressing well and over the coming months we will be constructing the basement and swimming pool.”

David Chappell, Holland Park’s Associate Head commented: “Our students have a fantastic view of the build site and are excited to see the work progressing. The end result will be an outstanding school providing an exceptional learning environment for young people present and future.”
