Facebook Page For Building Work On New Bournville College
Shepherd has set up a Facebook page to share progress on the building work of the new £66 million Bournville College at Longbride, Birmingham.
The Facebook page: Shepherd@Bournville College New Build includes images of how the 250,000 sq ft college will eventually look, progress photography of current building work and events scheduled to take place in the lead-up to the opening.
Derek Urquhart, project leader for Shepherd comments: “We felt it was particularly important to harness social networking as part of our strategy for communicating progress on the new build to the local community, staff and students. The Facebook site compliments the live webcam, news and pictures that are posted on Bournville College’s website, reporting the site’s progress.”
The £66m construction of the new 250,000 sq ft college is progressing well with tower cranes now on-site to help build the concrete frame; and with groundworks and foundations due to complete in May.
The new building, which has been designed by the Birmingham office of international design practice Broadway Malyan, will consolidate the College’s existing three campuses into one flagship educational establishment spanning six storeys.
Scheduled to complete in time for the new academic year in September 2011, Bournville College is expected to accommodate 15,000 students in both further and higher education.
Norman Cave, Principal of Bournville College, added: “We are pleased with the progress of the work on our new build campus. Shepherd’s Facebook page will help our stakeholders visualise the building progress until we relocate.”
The construction team is working closely with developer St. Modwen and joint landowner Advantage West Midlands, together with Birmingham City Council and the Environment Agency to deliver the new College, which will be situated off the A38 Bristol Road South at the heart of the £1billion regeneration of Longbridge.
