Foundations Laid For New Leisure Centre
Bilston’s new 5,600m² leisure centre is now starting to appear out of the ground with Shepherd Construction currently installing the foundations.
Already steel reinforcement beams have been installed and more than 1000 tonnes of concrete poured to form the foundations of the basement of the leisure centre.
A further 1000 tonnes of concrete will then be poured over the coming weeks in further sections of the raft foundation for the 25 metre main pool and studio pool.
Once work completes in summer 2011, the new leisure centre will comprise an eight-lane, 25m swimming pool; learner pool; health and fitness suite; four squash courts; a sports hall; café and meeting room.
When complete the leisure centre will create around 33 full-time jobs but already the project is providing work opportunities with Shepherd Construction and the team of sub-contractors so far employing 18 people from the local area.
