Paintbrushes At The Ready As Pupils Prepare To Turn Hoardings Into Art
Pupils from three Coventry schools are working with a professional artist to turn a set of hoardings bordering the construction site at the University of Warwick into works of art.
Artist Jo Buffery in conjunction with Warwick Arts Centre is mentoring pupils from The Westwood Academy, Charter Primary School and Cannon Park Primary School as they design and paint artwork based on their aspirations for the future and their interpretation of life as a student on a university campus.
The colourful representations will be used to brighten up the hoardings at the site of the University’s new £17 million student accommodation which is being built by national contractor Shepherd Construction and will provide 538 additional student rooms on the campus.
Before putting brush to paper the youngsters carried out research by visiting the University to quiz students about campus life. The final artwork will be on-show by March.
Peter Millett, managing director for Shepherd Construction’s West Division commented: “We’re delighted to be working with the youngsters who have shown so much enthusiasm for the project. We look forward to seeing our hoardings depicting student life as construction on the halls of residence unfolds further.”
