Shepherd short-listed as bidder for Stocktons £180 million Building Schools for the Future contract
Shepherd has been announced as one of three private sector organisations, short-listed to bid for the multi-million pound contract to design, build and maintain twelve Stockton Borough schools. Bishopsgarth School and Ian Ramsey Church of England School will be the first secondary schools in the borough to benefit from the Building Schools for the Future investment, under the £180 million contract.
Over the coming months the three short-listed organisations will work with the Council and representatives from the Borough’s secondary schools to develop designs for Bishopsgarth School and Ian Ramsey Church of England School.
The bidders will also outline how they would use their resources to deliver Stockton’s exciting BSF vision which aims to raise the excellent teaching and learning currently in place in schools to an even higher level. In June, the Council will evaluate the three bidder’s ideas and decide which organisations will progress to the next stage of the procurement process.
Two shortlisted bidders will then enter into a further period of discussions with the Council to further develop their initial designs and ideas for the delivery of Stockton’s BSF programme. The bidder whose proposals most closely match the individual schools and the local authority’s vision and requirements will then be awarded the multi-million pound contract.
The Selected Bidder is expected to be approved towards the end of this year with construction anticipated to start on the first two schools, Bishopsgarth School and Ian Ramsey Church of England School, in June 2011.
Over the next ten to 15 years seven mainstream secondary schools, two special schools and a pupil referral unit will be remodelled and refurbished and two new build Academies will be constructed.
