The new Centre, now known as the Bert Williams Leisure Centre, includes a 25m, eight-lane swimming pool, learner pool, health and fitness suite, sauna four squash courts and meeting rooms. The learner pool has a moveable floor, which can be raised or lowered depending on teaching requirements. The centre forms a key part of the £175m urban village project and activities during the construction programme led the way in promoting economic development in the area, through creation of local jobs, skills training and employing local supply chain partners.
