This new campus comprises seven separate, but inter-connected “blocks” which step down from six-storeys towards the River Calder. A “street” runs from the rear of the atrium to link the main building, via new pedestrian and road bridges to the new purpose-built sports area. The campus links together learning facilities for further education, higher education and adult skills and for the University of Central Lancashire. Sustainable features were designed into the scheme and include a fully glazed central atrium to maximise the use of natural light and a rainwater harvesting system.
