BREEAM Excellent

The creation of 590 student bedrooms, across six blocks, linked through a nucleus building containing student services, common room areas and laundry equipment. Sustainability was a key feature of the development, which achieved a BREEAM excellent rating. A five-acre nursery was set up around the site to cultivate almost 40,000 locally sourced trees and shrubs to enable replanting around the development to encourage wildlife. The scheme forms the first key part of the new Heslington East campus for the University of York.
