This new shopping arcade has transformed Wigan’s town centre. Incorporating 35 new shop units and an 825 space car park, Grand Arcade was built on the site of the famous Wigan casino, and theming around this has been incorporated throughout the food mezzanine area. The development is the world’s first shopping centre to have reduced CO2 emissions to net zero through the carbon neutral climate change project.

Construction works had to be rescheduled following the discovery of archaeological remains, which dated from Roman, Medieval and later periods.   The programme was reworked to allow the archaeologists to carry out their works, whilst still ensuring the Arcade was completed and handed over on time.
