Holland
Park School is a landmark education scheme within the Kensington conservation
area, adjacent to Holland Park in London. Constructed over three distinct
phases, the new school provides 16,700m² accommodation for 1,500 students aged
between 11 and 18, and over 100 staff.. A major part of the works was the
introduction of high-standard temporary accommodation, to allow demolition of
the existing school to take place. This accommodation comprised a four-storey
fully-fitted out 156-module classroom block and two-storey 14-module reception
unit.
The new six-storey building is divided into two
distinct halves, separated by a central atrium which stretches stretching the
full length of the building and is linked by a series of walkways on each
level. Features of the school include large, well-designed
classrooms, a learning resource centre, high quality dance, drama, arts,
science and technology facilities and improved facilities for the sixth form.
New sport facilities include a 25m swimming pool, a four-court sports hall, a fitness suite, a synthetic turf all-weather
sports pitch and a four tennis court-sized multi-use games area (‘MUGA’),
whilst existing tennis courts have been refurbished.
The
new school forms part of a major redevelopment scheme, including 72 new flats,
83 new social rented and key worker flats and a new Children's Centre
