Richmond School, Richmond
Client North Yorkshire County Council
Refurbishment of a Grade II listed 6th form building and existing secondary school, together with the erection of a new school building with glazed link bridge and bistro area to provide facilities for over 1700 students. A new sports hall was also created. The school features a number of sustainability credentials including a sedum roof, biomass boilers, rainwater harvesting, passivent systems and four wind turbines which provide up to 7% of the school’s energy needs.
The key challenge of this project was working in a “live” school environment and works were carefully scheduled around phased handovers to ensure there was no disruption to learning, or examinations.
The project was formally opened by Lord Coe, to coincide with the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Richmond during the summer of 2012.
